Varsity Head Coach

Mike Boback is entering his second season as the Head Coach of the Birmingham Unified Kings Varsity Team. Mike also coaches the 09 Birmingham Rangers and is the Director of Birmingham Hockey. Mike grew up in Shelby Township and Graduated from Eisenhower HS. He played most of his youth hockey with Compuware and during those years he played for the 16u and Select 17s US National Teams. Mike attended Providence College in 1988. While at Providence, he racked up 204 points, had a record 19 game point streak, was named first Team Hockey East in his Sophomore and Senior Seasons and was the Hockey East scoring champ in 1992. Mike was elected to the Providence College Hall of Fame in 2013. He played for Team USA in the 1989/90 World Jr Championships in Helsinki and the 92 World Championships in Prague. He was drafted by the Washington Capitals, played three seasons in the organization and won the Calder Cup with AHL affiliate Portland Pirates in 94.

 

Mike and his wife Erin reside in Birmingham and have 4 daughters, Faye, Avery, Addy and Charley.
